Geothermal energy has begun to attract more attention from hydrocarbon

Geothermal energy has begun to attract more attention from hydrocarbon operators, consulting and service companies.

Over the decades, the hydrocarbon and geothermal industries have moved apart, despite using similar tools to extract resources from the underground and convert them into energy.

Some of the main differences:
• price per BTU generated (lower in geothermal);
• technology portfolio (largest in hydrocarbons);

Both have a similar academic background.

Geothermal energy is perceived today only by its hydrothermal (steam) power generation, while HDR (hot dry rock) is another abundant source of geothermal energy and found anywhere if we drill deeper in order to achieve high temperatures sufficient to produce geothermal energy. Today there are innovative companies to produce geothermal energy more efficiently.

Despite the difficult economic situation we are experiencing today, operators, consulting and service companies in the hydrocarbon industry have a great opportunity to move towards geothermal energy. This is not only strategically important to diversify their portfolios, but also to continue as key players in the energy industry, reducing carbon emissions into the atmosphere.
